Inside the head

In General Life stuff, Music, Reviews, shitty advice on April 5, 2011 at 10:01 pm

I’m not sure since when but I guess 8-9th would be a good guess. Yup. That has to be time when I started getting addicted to music. I remember my first Sony MP3 player and how I would plug myself in and jump around the house like a drunk monkey to mom’s fury and to everyone else s  general disgust. My fascination began with Punjabi R&B and Linkin Park. So you could see me crooning this or head banging to this at just about the same time. I had this weird habit(and still do) to ask people for their music and then sorta compare notes. At that point, any new music was treasured.

Like most teenage guys, I was drawn towards rock/metal initially. LP was an obvious influence but I soon got to know about Creed, Nickelback  and Metallica. Names like Iron Maiden ,Led Zeppelin and Pink Floyd remained domains I wasn’t bothered to touch. Also, it was at this time that I developed my everlasting respect for Eminem. I know people love to diss rap as not being music and I have no intention whatsoever to take part in that discussion. He just makes sense to me and that should be enough.

Boy bands were the thing as well and I won’t lie about never stepping enjoying their tracks. Blue are still a personal favorite. Try this.

But I guess it is in Class 12 that my tastes finally evolved and a more mature sense appeared. I have always been an advocate of how important lyrics are. The tune might be great but if the words don’t match, then the song’s ruined. Till now I would listen to recommended music or stuff from my sisters collection. But now i decided to go on a music hunt. Discover stuff of my own and build my own collection. And even though that quest continues, I find it relieving to have finally unearthed stuff that had been sitting in front of me all along.

It started with Dave Mathews Band. Satellite had been a personal favorite long ago but I soon discovered how soulful the rest of their stuff was as well. Another personal favorite here . Then my favorite band, Poets of the Fall. Everyone had heard Carnival of Rust but stuff like Sleep went unnoticed. Plus, their Twilight Theater is the greatest album I’ve ever heard purely on basis of the perfect sync between the music and the lyrics. The Script and Coldplay are bands I love and respect as well. Iron Maiden’s Final Frontier was also great btw. Opera is something I never touched on before and things haven’t changed much. Over the course of the year, I developed a new found love for both the piano and the violin.

Like most things in my life,I picked up a lot of stuff from Chubba. Like Aerosmith , Billy Joel , Celine Dion , Michael Jackson and tons of others whom I frankly can’t think of now. She played a major role as well in diversifying my playlist.

So do I ignore Bollywood altogether? Nope. Though I would say it does get a bit too mushy for me sometimes.

So now I’m like a wayward soul drifting around looking for new stuff. The iTunes store has been helpful too, though cut a hole in wallet.

A few favorites then?

The Green Hornet: Epic fail

In Manchester United, Movie Reviews, Reviews, shitty advice on January 24, 2011 at 4:29 am

This review serves also as an apology to the 5 individuals I dragged to this movie citing words such as “Superhero”, “Action” and “Cameron Diaz” as possible baits. The day which was full of sporting victories(Manchester United destroying Birmingham City and Purdue rolling over Michigan State) ended on a foul note with one of the most disastrous productions of all times. Though I still hate RED more..

Anyways, like most movies that tend to disappoint, the plot was cliqued. Here we go- “Rich son-Father dies-Change of heart-Faithful and ridiculously talented side-kick- hot intelligent chick- weird narcissistic villain- epic final battle- awkward jokes- awesome gadgets- happy ending- kiss my ass(optional)”

No, I did not expect something like the Dark Knight. Never. There won’t be another Dark Knight. However, you do expect people trying to make their movies more interesting. So now let’s take a look at specifics:

Seth Rogen as Green Hornet had to be the stupidest decision ever. You start realizing that soon  when you see him “dancing” or attempting something similar during the party scene right in the beginning. The fact is confirmed when he does his whole “OMFG Awesome” histrionics on seeing how his dad’s car had been converted into a deadly weapon.(Not close to the Bat mobile though. Not even close.) Jay Chou does the job of the Martial Art expert cum pervert cum Engineering genius decently. I would like to point out that the parts when he says that time slows down and he observes everything at a slower pace with better understanding reminded me a lot of what Shawn does on Psych. Cameron Diaz wraps up anyone worth mentioning(actually even she is kinda out of place but..er..) as she plays the role of Rogen’s new temp. Frankly, she looks more like his elder sister.

You may survive the movie due to the antics of Christopher Waltz(whose role as the Psychotic Nazi general in Inglorious Basterds is embedded in my head forever). Waltz acts as Russian Mobster Chudnofsky who is facing some sort of a mid-life crisis where he seems to think no one thinks he is scary enough. Yes, that is the best the writers could come up with.

In short, a must DO NOT WATCH! :P

Boiler Up!

Combined Movie Review-Machete, Social Network and The Town

In Announcements, Movie Reviews, Reviews, shitty advice on October 12, 2010 at 10:08 am

Above named are the 3 best movies that I’ve seen since I’ve entered the US. This is sort of a combined review of all 3. I’ve been kinda busy with other projects. Must focus more on studies now.

MACHETE

Rating- 4/5

The best of the lot for sure. Robert Rodriguez comes up with one of the most entertaining flicks I’ve ever seen. It has the sets of a B-grade movie with dialogues which literally force you to ROFL. And trust me, Danny Trejo does the job of a Mexican good cop who must face bad guys like Robert De Niro and Steven Seagal with aplomb. With the scars on his face, he is best badass ever! :D Add smoking hot Michelle Rodriguez and Jessica Alba to the mix and we have a winner!

THE SOCIAL NETWORK

Rating-3.5/5

Facebook is a reality in most people’s lives. Especially in high school and college where most people do tend to have a Facebook account. So a controversial look at the origins of this company would obviously draw in the masses. I found the Social Network more like a documentary with obvious additions so as to spice up the story line. Overall a good job though must not be interpreted as the truth as we cannot be too sure on whether things did happen that way. A good watch with friends.

The Town

Rating 3.5/5

A movie directed by Ben Affleck with him playing the lead role? I must say I was a bit apprehensive first but soon realized that Affleck has actually done a great job in this movie. The story revolves around Charlestown, a place notorious for producing bank robbers. Affleck falls in love with one of his captives during one particular shootout. The story moves with how he must now cope with this new found love interest while also maintaining the balance with his lifelong buddies. Affleck does a good job of trying to keep away from the usual cliques and manages to come up with a thriller.

Indian Rock Music-My favorites!

In Music, Reviews, shitty advice on September 2, 2010 at 1:19 am

Well-India isn’t well known for Rock Music.Honestly, most people outside might not know about it at all. Not many are aware inside the country as well! :P Jokes apart, the scene is apparently changing. Here is a compilation of a few songs which I’ve liked a lot. I admit I haven’t heard many.Just a few I’ve liked. Ranked in no particular order.

Some of you  might classify them as alternate-progressive-blah blah-useless morons! You obviously understand that argument over that is futile.

1) Zero-PSP 12

I remember listening to this song like 4 years ago. Naive as I was-I thought the guy was saying “Baas maare” in the chorus.(Weird interpretation eh?) Anyways-I’d say this is my personal favorite!

2)Pentagram-Voice

I never knew Vishal Dadlani had his own band.Stumbled upon this last year on YouTube and it’s been stuck inside my head ever since.

3)Avial-Nada Nada and Adu Pambe

Yes.KERALA has a ROCK BAND.The land of my origin.Biggest shock ever.Brilliant music. They sing in Malayalam though.Music worth trying out nevertheless.

4)Them Clones-My Life and Bomb Song

Delhi based-one of the best.My Life has been my ringtone for a year now. :/ Came to know of Bomb Song through Karma Man.

5)Indian Ocean-Bandeh

One word-Epic!

Movie Review-The Expendables

In Announcements, Movie Reviews, Music, Reviews, shitty advice on August 29, 2010 at 6:28 am

My first weekend at college! :P I must say I have never ever anticipated holidays the way I did for these.I mean-5 days into college and the assignments had screwed me up big time.So Friday night was like redemption! We went the Union Bash, the Purdue Glee Club performance(which we exited mid-way :P ) and played arcade games. At 11:45 PM we decide to end the day with a movie. I personally wanted to watch Vampires Suck and pledge my support to fellow Twilight Haters. However, everyone around me wanted to watch the- movie-which-has-every-possible-action hero-possible!!  And so we booked ourselves for the 12:20 AM Expendables . Also winning the arguement was the fact the IMDB(traitors) gave this movie a 7.4 in comparison to 3.4 to Vampires. What happened next was a complete mood spoiler..

Rating- 1.5/5

It almost kills me to give a movie with Sylvester Stallone,Bruce Willis,Arnold Schwarzenegger,Jason Statham,Jet Li,Stone Cold Steve Austin(Yay!),Mickey Rourke and people whose names I can’t remember-such a pathetic rating. And Stallone directed this himself. But I swear the movie thoroughly deserves it. When you see such a star cast-you expect better. Keeping in mind that most of these guys have “action” plastered all over their faces.

The story plot is simple. Stallone and his team are  hired assassins. Brilliantly skilled, these men are hired by Willis to kill a rogue CIA agent who has taken control of a remote island called Vilena.(or something similar) What happens next is obvious. The “team” fights the army of buffoons who I  believe were trained to die at the faintest touch possible. You have the Batista guy from Dexter(:D) acting as the head of state who later on realizes how wrong he was to sell his land to the “Americans”.  This is after he lets them torture his daughter.

Amigo,you’re weird.

At the end of countless minutes of lame conversations and unreasonable shooting-the land is freed and you are free to leave the hall and curse yourself over entering it in the first place.

Now let me explain why the movie sucked.

1)These guys must have like 100 action movies between them. How can they expect the audience to admire the same plot that they have seen countless times again? And that too in the driest manner possible?

2)Individual performances sucked. Stallone usually seemed to be trying to escape from the camera. Jet Li’s presence was a joke in itself. He seemed more confused than the audience at most times.  Statham was like the only one who held his own at times. I wish Steve Austin stop being the bodyguard at all times. Mickey Rourke’s performance as the “dealer cum tattoo guy” was disgusting. The part when he tells about how he let a woman in Bosnia commit suicide almost made me laugh.

3)Stallone falls for a girl almost 40 years younger to him.Love is blind but this actually dumb.

Final verdict? Big let down. With such a star cast-you expect something way better. Powerful guns and lightning fast reflexes aren’t enough.

If only I had gone for Vampires Suck….:(

Btw-another Owl City must hear

The Facebook Movie?

In Announcements, General Life stuff, Reviews, shitty advice on July 16, 2010 at 8:29 pm

I was browsing through Twitter when I landed on a link promoted by Sony. The tagline read-”You don’t make 500 million enemies without making a few enemies”. Curiosity got the better of me and I was soon redirected to the website of a movie titled The Social Network. The movie is apparently based on a book titled “The Accidental Billionaires” by Ben Merzich. The trailer however is the one which interests me. It basically tells you that Facebook wasn’t Mark Zuckerberg’s idea after all. That the man supposedly with a fortune of around 2.4 Billion $ was just at the right spot at the right time. At least that’s what I inferred from the trailor.

This s one movie I just don’t wanna miss!

World Cup 2010 preview by Shreyans

In Football, Reviews, World Cup 2010 on May 25, 2010 at 12:17 am

2010 FIFA World Cup – What One Can Expect From the Tournament

The UEFA Champions League came to an end this Saturday with Italian giants Inter Milan being crowned as Champions of Europe,  and the focus of the players, coaches as well as football fans across the world now switches to the national sides as they gear up for the biggest stage of them all – the FIFA World Cup. For the first time in the eighty years since its inception in 1930, an Africa nation will be hosting the tournament, after South Africa won the bidding process that was kept limited to the continent. June 11 would see the start of a journey that assures to leave the world gripped in excitement and joy, bring the best out of players and coaches, give rise to new legends and national heroes, and eventually crown one of the 32 best nations in the sport as World Champions.

With a total amount of 8.4 billion Rands being pumped in over a period of almost six years, preparations have been immaculate, even though questions were raised time and again over the readiness of South Africa to handle a tournament of such magnitude. Five new stadiums have been constructed and another five renovated across a total of nine cities to meet the international standards set by the FIFA. With the possibility of a terror attack looming over the tournament, security has been buffed up for both the players and the large number of tourists that are expected to visit the country.

Although the World Cup promises to be one of the most entertaining tournaments in the world’s most popular sport, the nearly three year long pilgrimage to football’s most coveted trophy has been no less intriguing. The qualifying process saw Euro 2008 semifinalists Russia failing to make the cut, while France crept into the final 32 courtesy a controversial late goal in the play-off against Ireland, in which French striker Thierry Henry clearly handled the ball before assisting the winning goal that killed Robbie Keane and his men’s hopes of making it to South Africa. Similar controversy also surrounded Uruguay’s final qualifier against Costa Rica. Teams like Sweden, Turkey and Egypt looked depleted sides as they failed to live up to their fans’ anticipations and made way for the rather inconspicuous nations like Slovakia and Algeria. The football world was in a position of some shock again when the preliminary squads were announced by national coaches. France coach Ramon Domenech chose to drop the likes of Karim Benzema, hailed as the best thing that ever happened to French football since the legendary Zinedine Zidane’s retirement, and Arsenal’s creative midfielder Samir Nasri, another fan-favourite. Serious doubts were again cast both on the coaching ability and future of the controversy-ridden Diego Maradona, who excluded Inter Milan veterans Javier Zanetti and Esteban Cambiasso, both of whom were essential in the Italian club’s treble win as well as Barcelona’s defensive rock Gabriel Milito. Players like Ronaldinho, Francesco Totti and Ruud van Nistelrooy were considered well past their prime by their respective coaches and as a result failed to make it to what possibly would have been their last appearance at the World Cup.

The draw for the 2010 FIFA World Cup’s Group Stages which was held in December last year split the 32 qualified teams into eight groups of four teams each. In spite of many star players like Michael Ballack, David Beckham and Ronaldinho being missing from the competition and the participation of still not fully fit players like Francesc Fabregas and Xavi Hernandez looking doubtful, there is a lot to watch out for in the world’s most viewed sporting event. Here is what we can expect from the Group Stages:

Group A:

Hosts South Africa have been placed in Group A along with 2006 Runners-Up France, South American qualifiers Uruguay and Latin American representatives Mexico, what seems to be a rather unpredictable pool. While the hosts are considered nothing more than outsiders for even making it into the first knockout round, the huge crowd support might just power the determined Africans past the Group Stage. 1998 Champions France had a qualifying campaign that was anything other than promising to their fans and Les Blues would be seriously hoping for a change in fortunes as well as form if they are planning to go anywhere near replicating their run in Germany last time around. Mexico, considering their past performances, would be anticipating a place in the first knockout stage, while Uruguay, who won their first title as host nations in the first edition of the Cup and bagged another in 1950, would ban on star striker Diego Forlan to get to the last 16.

Fixtures to watch out for:

  • South Africa v/s Mexico (Opening match of the 2010 World Cup)
  • France v/s Mexico

Group B:

Copa America runners-up Argentina would be front runners to make it to the Round of 16 ahead of Group B candidates Nigeria, Korea Republic and Greece. Maradona’s star-studded attack consisting of World Player of The Year Lionel Messi, Sergio Aguero, Gonzalo Higuain, Diego Milito and Carlos Tevez is expected to lead Argentina to a third World Cup win despite the coach’s erratic selection procedure that left the defence looking suspect. As for the other three teams, the race seems wide open, with all three looking even on paper and having the potential to shock anyone on their day. While Korea and Nigeria have looked impressive in their past appearances at the World Cup, the Greeks, who were surprise winners of the Euro 2004, also have a reputation of going past fans’ expectations in big matches.

Fixtures to watch out for:

  • Argentina v/s Nigeria (2008 Olympic Final repeat on the professional level)
  • Argentina v/s Korea Republic

Group C:

With a near perfect qualifying campaign consisting of nine wins out of ten matches, England emerge as strong candidates for this year’s World Cup. Over the past many years, England’s talented players have not been able to replicate their brilliant performances at their clubs while wearing national colours, but under Italian coach Fabio Capello they have been able to push what seemed to be a perennial problem into oblivion. The qualifiers saw Liverpool captain Steven Gerrard, Manchester United stars Rio Ferdinand and Wayne Rooney, and the Chelsea duo of Frank Lampard and former English captain John Terry gelling well together as a team, raising hopes for a title after 44 long years. The English Cricket Team broke the jinx earlier this month by winning their first ever major ICC Tournament and English supporters around the world would be hoping for a similar change of fortunes for the football side. The USA led by their experienced captain Landon Donovan too have a good chance of making it to the next round although further progress seems unlikely as a face-off with Germany in the Round 16 looks almost certain for the team occupying the second spot in Group C. Algeria, one of the six qualifying nations from the host continent, along with little-known Slovenia will have a tough time around, but completely ruling them out would be a mistake that perhaps only few can afford to make in a competition where a single game can make or break a team’s fortunes.

Fixture to watch out for:

  • England v/s USA

Group D:

Placed in Group D alongside Australia, Ghana and Serbia, Euro 2008 finalists and last edition’s third place holders Germany would like to extend their past incredible run at major competitions by converting their favourites tag into something more meaningful, like the World Cup Trophy. Ghanaian Kevin-Price Boateng’s rash tackle that sent German captain Michael Ballack out of the World Cup led to a lot of controversy, which has made the match between the two sides a much anticipated encounter. But even without their inspirational captain, the three-time champions have enough depth in their lineup with household names like Philippe Lahm, Bastian Schweinsteiger and Miroslav Klose always ready for the Blitzkrieg. Four time Oceania Nations Cup winners Australia, who were eliminated from the 2006 World Cup after a controversial penalty in their contest with eventual champions Italy in the last 16, are expected to take the second spot in their group with a pretty experienced side led by Everton forward Tim Cahill although Michael Essien-led Ghana cannot be written off so easily.

Fixtures to watch out for:

  • Germany v/s Australia
  • Germany v/s Ghana

Group E:

With eight wins out of eight in the qualifiers, The Netherlands will be hoping to carry on their excellent performances in the past and looking at the Dutch squad, which boasts of an array of talented stars like Arjen Robben, Robin van Persie and Wesley Sneijder, a place in the final four seems certain for The Oranje. The heartbreaking loss to West Germany in 1974 under the great Johan Cruyff and the title drought ever since still hurt many Dutch fans but with the crafty and skillful team that The Netherlands possess this time around, a World Title does not look like a distant dream. African giants Cameroon would be relying on Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto’o to guide them through the competition, but they would face stiff opposition from fellow Group E contenders Denmark and Japan. Overall, all the three teams are pretty strong contenders for the second spot and it may well go right down to the last match to decide who joins the Dutchmen in the last 16 from Group E.

Fixtures to watch out for:

  • The Netherlands v/s Cameroon
  • The Netherlands v/s Japan

Group F:

Defending champions Italy, despite their ageing and predominantly defensive side consisting of Fabio Cannavaro, Andrea Pirlo and Genaro Gattuso, are the leading candidates from Group F along with Manchester City front man Roque Santa Cruz-led South American side Paraguay. In spite of their entry into the tournament as the Oceanian champions, New Zealand look a weak side on paper, lacking the flair in their squad that would guarantee any progress, while Slovakia too lack the goods to pose any serious challenge to stronger opponents. Italy and Paraguay should thus find it easy to qualify for the Round of 16 at the expense of these two underdogs.

Fixture to watch out for:

  • Italy v/s Paraguay

Group G:

Undoubtedly the Group of Death. Current leaders of the FIFA World Ranking tables and firm favourites Brazil have been drawn with Portugal, Ivory Coast and North Korea. With both history and star power on their side, the Samba Boys are expected to make it through to another World Cup Final. Players like Kaka, Julio Cesar, Luis Fabiano and Robinho have proved time and again that Brazil have it in them to grab a sixth World Title. Portugal would be relying on their skillful and flamboyant captain Cristiano Ronaldo to get them through, while Ivory Coast, commanded upfront by this year’s Premier League top scorer, Didier Drogba also are in serious contention for going past the Group Stages. As if qualification wasn’t difficult enough, a potential Round of 16 Clash with Spain can prove fatal for even the best of teams. The fourth team in the group, North Korea, can blame their poor luck as a place in the next round seems next to impossible.

Fixtures to watch out for:

  • Brazil v/s Ivory Coast
  • Ivory Coast v/s Portugal
  • Portugal v/s Brazil (Probably the most anticipated encounter of the Group Stages)

Group H:

Like the Dutchmen, European champions Spain also boast of a perfect qualifying campaign under Coach Vicente Del Bosque. Blessed with some of the finest footballers on earth today, La Furia Roja perhaps hold the strongest candidature for this year’s World Cup, a title they have been yearning for ever since the tournament began 80 years ago. Carles Puyol, Xavi Hernandez, Andres Iniesta, David Villa, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Francesc Fabregas, Fernando Torres – the list of match winners in the Reds’ side is endless. History is also on their side as they have never lost to any of their Group H opponents. Switzerland would be looking forward to join Spain, ahead of Honduras and Chile, two largely unexpected teams hailing from the Americas.

Fixtures to watch out for:

  • Spain v/s Switzerland
  • Spain v/s Honduras (A goal treat expected)
  • Spain v/s Chile (Another drubbing at the hands of Spain expected)

5 Biggest Omissions of the World Cup 2010

In Announcements, Football, Reviews, World Cup 2010 on May 25, 2010 at 12:13 am

The World Cup is at our doorstep and we have a few shocks already! For a change it’s the managers delivering the blows before the tournament begins and the players get into the action.  Most managers have gone on current form and refused to look at the players past performances as a standard to measure ability. Following is a list of the 5 men who many would have considered sureties in their countries lineups at South Africa. There are many more but these are the 5 omissions that shock me the most.

  1. Ronaldinho(Brazil)

He enchanted us before Lionel Messi entered the scenario. This 2 time FIFA World Player of the Year winner has probably won every possible award a footballer can dream of. And yet he won’t be seen in action this June when the Samba Boys take the field. People say Ronaldinho’s form dipped ever since his move from Barcelona to AC Milan. However, Class is permanent. He was instrumental in  Milan’s resurrection this year under new coach Leonardo. However, Brazil coach Dunga chooses to place his faith on more consistent players. Will Men in Yellow miss his incredible pace and creativity on field? That remains to be decided.

2. Karim Benzema(France)

Is Real Madrid jinxed? Many players at their peaks of their careers shifted their loyalty towards the Bernabeu and ended up messing up their careers.  Think Michael Owen. Ruud Van Nistelrooy. Gabriel Heinze. And now Karim Benzema. Hailed as the future of French Football after the departure of the legendary Zinedine Zidane, he would be considered a surety in the Les Bleus lineup. However, manager Raymond Domenech begs to differ. And to be honest, he is perfectly justified in his assessment.  For a striker of his caliber, 9 goals in 32 matches are pathetic. He has lost his place in the Real Madrid starting 11 to Argentinean Gonzalo Higuain and rumors are afloat about a possible summer transfer to Manchester United. Fortunately, he has age on his side and can come back strongly. Hopefully.

3. Ruud Van Nistelrooy

Personally, this was something I expected. Die hard Nistelrooy fans were hoping that his fitness and good form at Hamburg would help in him getting a ticket to South Africa. Sadly,it seems curtains on the international career of one of the greatest contemporary strikers.  During his international career for The Oranje, he scored 33 goals in 64 matches. However, it must be noted that his performances at Hamburg were not even close to the kind of player we had become accustomed to see at Old Trafford. He has lost his edge and unfortunately his place to relatively younger strikers like Huntelaar and Van Persie. A sad ending to a remarkable career.

4. Franceso Totti

One of Italy’s World Cup 2006 heroes. The man has been strangely absent from the International scene since then. Lack of form and injuries have been the culprits. However, this year he has led an AS Roma renaissance under Claudio Ranieri. However,  Italy coach Marcello Lippi chose to continue with most of the side that helped Italy qualify for the World Cup. Another great striker we most probably will never see again donning his nations colors ever again.

5. Samir Nasri

Now this is something where I believe Domenech really messed up bad. I agree, Veira is not at his best as he once was and Benzema basically has lost any form he ever had.  However, Samir Nasri has been in great touch at Arsenal. His goal against Porto in the Champions League is one of the best of the tournament thi s year. His on-field creativity would do France a whole lot of good. He has had injury related problems this season but has regained his fitness completely.

France will miss him sorely. Another early exit?

Movie Review- Kick Ass

In Announcements, General Life stuff, Movie Reviews, Reviews, shitty advice on May 7, 2010 at 12:53 pm

Rating-4/5

Just finished watching Kickass and felt compelled to write a review. I really liked the movie. I mean it’s like those feel-good type of movies that you enjoy. They might not necessarily make sense all the time but you do get your money’s worth.(In my case for free!) I first heard about the movie here(couldn’t find the exact link;guess he deleted it.)

The story is pretty simple. It’s plot is centred around a comic enthusiast who wants to be a superhero in real life. The guys name is also pretty unconventional.(As in there is no MAN attached to his name.Like Spiderman,Batman,Iron Man,Hanuman-you get the point).

Anyways, our Superhero Kickass is an average joe living life under his cloak of invisibility while fantasizing secretly about his English teacher! He can’t seem to understand why to date noone has been dumb enough to actually become a superhero. So you must obviously get the point that he now becomes the superhero in question. He gets stabbed in his first attempt. Becomes a Youtube celebrity in the second. Ends up forced to act gay cause that’s the only way he can get close to the chick he likes(I never knew gay guys had so many privileges, apart from the obvious that is).

Enter Nicholas Cage and his cute little daughter who are obsessed wit killing people. There is a whole history behind it but I’d say you watch the movie to know more. Heavy doses of the drug cartel as well. Damn! Must say the fighting scenes were pretty good. I mean it’s not everyday that you see a 1o year old girl beating the hell out of some 20-30 odd armed men,do you?

All in all. Great movie.

Dave Mathews Band

In Announcements, Music, Reviews on April 15, 2010 at 11:19 am

Dave Mathews Band (DMB) is not a band most people would have heard about. It’s not exactly mainstream. But as I love to point out, it’s the freaking music that matters. And these guys are real good. DMB is basically a group of instrumentalist lead by lead singer (Dave Mathews). I recommend anyone looking for new music to try these guys out. They’ve been in the scene since 1991 though. Most people heard about them when they won their first Grammy last year. But they do have other feats to be proud about. Like the fact that they share the record with Metallica to have had 5 consecutive albums debut at Number 1 on the Billboard.

Their latest album (which got them the Grammy) is titled Big Whiskey and the GrooGrux King. It’s basically in memory of one of their founding band members who died a year before.

Track you must check out before you download the whole thing is “Why I Am”. This one has been heavily featured on radio waves in the Delhi circuit.

My personal favorite however is a much older song of theirs.
